Top 4 Data Recovery Softwares

Best Softwares to Retrieve Accidentally Deleted Files

We looked at four data recovery tools this month, but before diving into the software reviews, it’s important to note that no consumer-level tool can retrieve files from a drive that is physically damaged. You’ll need to call in the pros for that, as it requires special hardware and may not work no matter what is tried. We also should note that we created a folder full of different files that were deleted and emptied from the Recycle Bin before testing each program. The software we tested varied in the number of files it recovered, but they all retrieved our test files just fine.

Buying Tip:
Only use a data recovery product that has deep scan technology. This recovers all deleted files that haven’t been overwritten, even if they no longer have their names attached. Just be aware that running a deep scan on a drive with a lot of storage capacity may take hours depending on how fast the drive and your computer are.
Good data recovery software often finds thousands of deleted files, so having plenty of options to sift through them is also good. The ability to sort files by the last time they were accessed can save a lot of time, because often, you’re searching for things deleted recently. Sorting files by size is also handy, as many deleted files are tiny things leftover from Web browsing.
Being able to drop those to the bottom of the list is convenient.

CBL Pro-V
CBL Pro-V is a powerful data recovery tool; scans take longer than is typical but are extremely thorough.
CBL PRO-V did an outstanding job of finding and recovering deleted files on all the drives we tested it on, and it is a great choice for experts who don’t need a lot of hand-holding or a slick interface.

As with other commercial options, we recommend you try a free program first, but Filerecovery 2011 is a thorough and relatively simple option if you need more power than free options provide.

Recuva
Overall, Recuva is an easy-to-use program and comes with enough power and options that it should be the first choice for recovering files without spending any money. If it doesn’t work, consider one of the commercial options reviewed in this article.
Recuva is easy to use, has a terrific interface and provides thorough searches…

Final Words:

Now that you know how easy it is to recover files you thought were gone forever, there may be files you don’t want anyone to find. Some data recovery tools come with a secure delete tool that overwrites recovered files of your choosing with random data, destroying them completely. Look for options that overwrite the data more than once for extra security, but know that doing so can take a lot of time.

Removing Smart Engine Virus

Smart Engine is a particularly tricky virus because it masquerades as legitimate antivirus software but is actually a dangerous malware application itself, classified as a rogue. Smart Engine inundates your computer with false alarms and alerts claiming your computer is infected with any number of malicious programs. The ultimate goal of the application is to scare you into buying the “full version” of the software, so that it can remove imaginary bugs from your computer. No matter how realistic or professional the Smart Engine’s menus and alerts seem, it is a harmful application that must be removed quickly. It not only slows down your computer and prevents you from using certain programs, but it also puts your personal data at risk.

Luckily, Trend Micro has released its Titanium Maximum Security 2012 software ($59.95, one year for a single user; $79.95, one year for three users;) so you can easily remove Smart Engine or any other type of malware installed on your computer. We’ll show you how to use Titanium Maximum Security 2012 to cleanse your computer of this threat.
Telltale Signs Of Smart Engine
Because the goal of Smart Engine is to plaster your screen with fake alerts, it’s very easy to tell whether it’s on your computer or not. You may first notice it when visiting a Web site and trying to watch a video. A window might pop up, telling you to install something in order to watch the video. Once you install this mysterious program, you’ll receive alerts saying that programs on your computer are harmful and must be blocked or that new viruses are being detected. And there will also be Desktop and Taskbar icons bearing the Smart Engine symbol. If you see any or all of these issues, then you should run an antivirus scan immediately.
Removing Smart Engine
Removing some viruses is as easy as deleting an easy-to-find file, but that’s not the case with Smart Engine. The best option is to install a security program, such as Titanium Maximum Security 2012 and run a full scan.
First, visit the company’s Web site and download the software. The wizard makes installation easy. During installation, Titanium Maximum Security will check your system for already-installed security software and ask you to remove the program(s) to avoid conflicts.
Once the software is installed, double-click the Trend Micro icon on your Desktop and launch the software. In the main menu, click the arrow next to Scan and select Full Scan. This will ensure that every file on your computer is checked for viruses. The software will automatically scan your computer and provide a status bar, which shows the specific files being scanned and the overall progress. When the scan is complete, the software will show you a report detailing how many threats were detected and whether they were removed. Your computer should now be rid of Smart Engine and its false alerts, as well as any other harmful applications.

Mobile Payments System Ultimate Guide

In the not-so-distant future, we’ll be using our smartphones to pay for products and services. And we’re not just talking about using your smartphone to log on to a Web site, make an online purchase, and enter credit card payments. You’ll be able to walk up to the register and authorize the payment through your phone—all within seconds.
For example, Google recently announced Google Wallet (www.google.com/wallet), which is a mobile application that will work with specific Android phones at locations where Citi’s MasterCard PayPass is accepted. Here, we’ll examine where mobile payments are right now, what options are likely to appear in the next few years, and how it will affect business as we know it.

Rise of Mobile Payments
As the popularity of smartphones continues to grow, consumers and manufacturers find new and exciting uses for them. With mobile payments, you’ll be able to turn your smartphone into a digital wallet that you can use to make credit card payments or possibly payments directly from your checking account. Besides the convenience of no longer needing to pull out a credit card or cash, businesses can use the mobile payment services to deliver special deals and other loyalty offers to shoppers, which can help drive in customers for local businesses. Customers also benefit from the online coupons because they’ll be able to save money using their digital wallets.

According to MobilePayUSA (www.mobilepayusa.com), “Juniper Research foresees the mobile payment sector exploding into a $670 billion business by 2015. Our [MobilePayUSA] market encompasses payments and marketing services for all real world stores, as well as online stores in the near future. We expect up to 25,000 users and 1,000 merchant locations by the end of 2011.”

Other popular mobile payment vendors, such as PayPal, also expect a significant rise in the number and amount of money seen from mobile payments. Because shopping is expected to change in the near future, now is a good time to find a way to join up with mobile wallets.

Mobile Wallet Technology
Digital wallet options are still in the infancy of development, so you’ll find a lot of different options for mobile payments. One of the most popular current methods is to embed a payment method for a product or service into your mobile Web site, so that customers can log on to your company page and make purchases. The other common way to pay through your smartphone is via a shopping-related app. The downside to that method is that consumers will need a separate app for each of the businesses where they want to pay with their mobile phone.

MobilePayUSA says that “Multiple shopping-related apps are literally clogging our smartphones, each handling only one facet of consumer desires. What is needed is a unified platform that allows consumers to add speed and convenience to their shopping experience.

MobilePayUSA achieves this by rolling together the best aspects of payment, marketing (Groupon-type offers as well as in-store daily deals), check-in/loyalty, and social networking.” With Mobile-PayUSA, you won’t need to add any new hardware or software to your business, and it works with the point-of-sale systems you currently use. Businesses just need to sign up for MobilePayUSA and speak to a salesperson about a plan that fits your company’s needs.

The customer will download the free MobilePayUSA app, and participating stores will appear on the phone through geolocation (either by phone signal triangulation or GPS signal). The customer selects the Pay Store button and enters a four-digit PIN and the amount to pay. Then, the customer confirms the transaction, which will also appear on the point-of-sale terminal.
One of the most talked about mobile payment methods is NFC (near field communications), which is a technology that exchanges data within a short range, typically less than 4 inches. The main benefit of NFC is that it would be one of the quickest ways to pay, because consumers would just need to verify the charge after swiping their phone near the NFC payment station. With NFC, you’ll need to install a contactless NFC reader and software for your point-of-sale terminal to allow customers to make transactions through their mobile wallets.

For consumers, they’ll just need a smartphone, an application that supports the mobile payment system, and possibly built-in technology for delivering the payment—assuming that some form of wireless communication is necessary.
Whether the technology is NFC or another wireless standard has yet to be determined. And with services such as MobilePayUSA available, consumers may not even need a specific technology to make mobile payments.
A variety of popular mobile phone manufacturers have stated that they will be incorporating NFC devices into the next generation of smartphones, so it would seem that NFC is the frontrunning technology. For example, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless have worked together to create the Isis mobile commerce network (www.paywithisis.com), which will provide merchants and consumers with NFC communication transactions.
Isis also recently announced that Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express will be joining the Isis mobile commerce solution. (We’ll also note that the Google Wallet app will require the use of a phone with NFC.)

Costs For Mobile Payment Service

Fees will vary per mobile payment service, but most current methods have opted for a pay-per-transaction basis that doesn’t require you to sign a contract or pay a monthly fee just to use the service.
Instead, many companies just take a percentage of the payment, and most offer a sliding scale, so that the more customers use it, the less of a percentage will be taken out. For example, MobilePayUSA’s charges start at the greater of 2.5% or 15 cents per transaction for merchants dependent on transaction volume (grocery store volume fees may vary). It will also offer premium-marketing services, such as Groupon-like offerings, with fees ranging from 2.5% to 15%.

One popular current option for accepting payments on the go is Square (squareup.com), which is a credit card reader that you can attach to an Android phone, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to accept credit card payments. Square charges a flat fee of 2.75% per credit card swipe.
For those who want to join mobile payments for the ability to trigger special offers and loyalty rewards at checkout, note that most mobile payment systems will charge an extra fee or a greater percentage to blast the rewards to the customer.

Make Your Own Windows 7 Theme

Windows 7 offers many interesting visual themes to choose from, but if you’d prefer to look at personal photos instead, you can use them to create your own custom theme.

To create a new theme, right-click an empty part of the Desktop and choose Personalize. Next, click Desktop Background and use the Browse button to find the folder containing the photos you want to use. (If you want your theme to include photos from different locations, copy them into a single folder in advance, because you can’t select photos from multiple folders.)

All the pictures in the folder you choose will be checked by default, so be sure to clear any that you don’t want to include. Then adjust the picture position, select how often you want the picture to change, or select the shuffle settings as desired. Click the Save Changes button. You’ll now see Unsaved Theme in the upper-left corner under My Theme; right-click it and choose Save Theme.

If you’d like to share your new theme, right-click it again and choose Save Theme For Sharing to create a Themepack file that you can send to another Win7 user. Fair warning—depending on the quality and number of photos you include, the file will likely be too big to send via email.

Samsung Galaxy Note Specs, Release Date and Price

Just when the world is witnessing the never ending war between the ever growing display size of smartphones and shrinking size of tablets, Samsung has come up with a new product and invented yet another category of 'Note'. Cited as a 'new type of smartphone, home of insight and innovation', the company is treating this new category as an ultimate on-the-go device which combines the experience of various mobile devices by managing to put everything in the compact, smartphone size.

The Galaxy Note has a big 5.3-inch display that makes us blanch: "This big a phone?" But Samsung is coming from a different school of thoughts with a lot of interesting features.
Along with handing multiple tasks such as calling and staying connected, a note taking functionality has been added to this device with the aim of replacing the notebook that people usually carry to scribble notes on. Hence, the Galaxy Note will be accompanied with a stylus named the SPen that will allow users to write, scribble or doodle, just the way they do on a sheet of paper. Other features include the S Planner for managing schedules, S Memo for taking pictures, voice recordings, typed and handwritten notes, an 8 MP camera and 2500 mAh battery.
This category might just find a niche for itself but all depends on what the company plans to price it at.

Release Date: TBA

Best Business Apps For Your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch

There’s no shortage of impressive applications— some of them free—for Apple’s popular family of mobile devices, and many of them are perfect for the home office worker or entrepreneur. Here are our favorite business apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. (Unless otherwise indicated, see the Apple App Store to purchase these.)

Business Card Reader - Best iPad and iPhone App for Reading Business Cards

Business Card Reader ($4.99) . . . well, reads business cards. No big deal, these days, but this recently updated app does it very quickly, very easily, and very well. Use your camera-equipped Apple mobile device to quickly and almost flawlessly import contact information from a business card directly to your address book. (And you’ll find that it’s easy to edit the scanned data, on the rare occasions that proves necessary.)
The app is integrated with LinkedIn, so maneuvering between the two is easy. Mobile workers will discover that the text scanning is fast and eerily accurate, recognizing business cards printed in many formats and in multiple languages, including English, French, German, and Spanish. Anyone who regularly networks and collects contact info will love this app. At $5, it’s a great investment that will quickly pay for itself.

FileXChange – Best iPad App for Managing and Transferring Files

FileXChange ($2.99) solves a problem that really shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place: Apple—which usually creates beautifully engineered and easy to use products—has made the process of moving files from your PC to your iPad (or vice versa) remarkably clunky. On the plus side, several other companies have stepped forward with apps that help you get around the problem, and FileXChange is a great example of that entrepreneurial spirit. Essentially a simple file manager, you can use the app to quickly and easily move files back and forth between the iPad and any number of devices—including other iOS 4 devices. The app can open most file types, including images, movies, PDFs, and Microsoft Office docs.
Just download the iPad app, click the Wi-Fi icon, and enter an IP address in your browser to establish a connection between your PC and your iPad. Simple. Convenient.
So why didn’t Apple think of it?

Skype – Best iPhone and iPad App to Make Video Calls

The long-awaited Skype for iPad (free) is here. Now you can call, video call (with camera-equipped devices), and instant message anyone else with Skype for your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Call and IM other Skype users free, or call or IM nonusers at low national or international rates using a 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
Skype now offers near CD quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch. With the increasing prevalence of camera-equipped Apple devices, Skype-based family video chats have become common, but Skype is also being used more and more often in business environments. Business users who wish to videoconference can initiate and share a video call with three or more people anywhere in the world with Skype Premium ($107.88 per year).

Find My iPhone – Let You Find A Lost Or Stolen iPhone

Your mobile device is important to you, but what if your iPad or iPhone were lost or stolen?

Best Video Editing Software

You already know that people turn to the Internet when they want to find out about your business. And depending on the nature of your product or service, chances are good that an online video can impart the message you want to convey. That might mean posting a short demo of your latest product, for example. Another idea is to create simple tutorials that show potential customers how to do something, and you just happen to portray your product as the means.
Regardless of the direction you’d like your videos to take, you’ll need video editing software/application to put them together. A video editing software lets you capture video clips from your camera or phone, rearrange and trim them, and put transitions such as fades between them. You’ll be able to add music and/or narration, your own text titles, and even special effects.
And finally, you can save your video as a file, post it online, or burn it to DVD or BD (Blu-ray Disc) with or without navigation menus.
Some video editing software are aimed at consumers, others at professionals or “prosumers,” but each offers a great deal of power for small business and home office users. Read on as we explore a handful of popular titles.

Video Editing Software: Common Features

The video editing apps in this article have the following commonalities, more or less.
Note that some video editors come in more inexpensive editions that may forgo some of these features. (If you need a specific capability that’s fairly recent, such as support for 3D and/or the integrated graphics features in AMD Fusion and second-generation Intel Core processors, make sure that an editing app has it before you buy.)

HD support
Proxy editing to help less powerful systems handle HD video
Hardware acceleration with recent GPUs and new CPUs
Surround sound . 3D
Titling
Photo slideshows with transitions, effects, and music
BD and DVD burning
Export to file formats for mobile de¬vices and popular sites
Simplified uploading to YouTube, Facebook, and/or others

Video Editing Software Buying Tips:

To most users, ease of use in a video editing software may be more important than bells and whistles. Likewise, if you need to do advanced tasks such as animation, you shouldn’t assume from the description that an application will do exactly what you want. Several editors come in trial versions, so take advantage of them to find software that’s easy to use and suitable for your needs.
Many video editing apps offer content packs with additional stock footage, images, menus, templates, and more. If you download and install these up front, you might avoid feeling creatively limited in the middle of a time-sensitive project.
Time is money in the business world. You can cut your rendering time by running your video editing software on a PC with a fast graphics card, processor, and hard drive. We also suggest 4GB of RAM or more (to make use of which you’ll need 64-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7) and a Full HD (1080p) widescreen monitor or two.
If you’re planning to edit in 3D, don’t forget that you’ll need a compatible monitor(s) and eyewear, as applicable. Likewise, surround-sound editing behooves you to buy a good sound card and quality multichannel speakers.
